Three generations and a single, meticulously defined philosophy of living.
The story behind one of Florence’s most remarkable hotels is a family saga that all started with a grandfather who turned beauty into a career in haute couture, continued thanks to a visionary mother who imagined a place that didn’t exist, and was brought to fruition by a son who has successfully transformed his family heritage into a new concept of luxury hospitality.
The result of their vision is an elegant period palazzo just a stone’s throw from the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, transformed into an exclusive boutique hotel where guests are steeped in a privileged, unique atmosphere.
Casa Howard embodies a thoroughly unconventional version of Florence, a cosmopolitan reinterpretation based on the evocative descriptions in travel journals of the 19th-century Grand Tourists who chose to settle in this city, and the pages of Edward Morgan Forster’s famous novel “Howards End”, depicted on screen in James Ivory’s unforgettable film.
The common thread linking its otherwise distinctly unique rooms is a decisive stylistic signature rooted in an eclecticism as skilful as it is eccentric and in a careful selection of designer and antique furniture, fine fabrics and chinoiserie, together with works of art and personal items that once belonged to members of the family.
While the pristine porcelain by the Florentine firm Ginori used for the English breakfasts evokes the spirit of the place, in the bathrooms local craftsmanship is showcased in personal care products from the adjacent Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella and Admiral and Draycott cast-iron baths by Devon&Devon.
