In an old noble home in Catalan Gothic style, converted into a luxury boutique hotel, the Draycott bathtub, Black Dandy and City taps, First Class mirror and Armonia towel warmer embody the surprising versatility of Devon&Devon collections, fitting perfectly into the different aesthetic design layouts of the twelve suites.
The restyling project by architect Andrea Perra features an explicit eclecticism that skilfully merges the manifold, ever-changing identities of Sicily as a whole and translates them into a coherent language.
Laid down in layers over the centuries, the many interpretations of beauty are here distilled in a timeless elegance that resounds with Moorish echoes and Baroque accents, the aristocratic appeal of late-eighteenth-century Grand Tours, Belle Époque atmospheres (when Taormina became the go-to destination for the international jet set) and the nostalgic celebration of the saga about the famous Florio dynasty.
The aesthetic coalescence in each of the suites is harmoniously offset by a balanced symphony of colours, with dusty blue, beige and coral set against stark white ceilings.
The exuberant colonial-style orangery meanwhile pays homage to the tradition of private Sicilian homes in the early twentieth century, welcoming guests in a magnificent Mediterranean garden thanks to palm-tree wallpaper and rattan furniture.
Finally, the hotel’s guests are immersed in the wonderful bay of Taormina on the scenic Terrace Bar, which overlooks the winding alleyways in the old town centre and offers breathtaking views of the sea and Etna.
