On the outskirts of Rome, within an archaeological landscape of extraordinary significance, a villa commissioned by the House of Savoy in the 1820s has been reimagined for contemporary living through a project that brings memory and design together with remarkable sensitivity.
Pjk Inndesign approached the redesign by listening closely to the building’s past. The original architecture has been carefully preserved and enhanced, together with its exquisite Neoclassical and Pompeian-style frescoes, monumental stone fireplace, refined Versailles parquet flooring and elegant boiserie.
Each element has been given renewed relevance, without yielding to the temptation of turning the residence into a museum.
Original features and contemporary additions engage in an entirely new dialogue, in which the classical matrix becomes the starting point for a philosophy of living deeply rooted in the present.
The project’s composition skilfully plays with the chiaroscuro created by the close relationship between interior and exterior, and with the intensity of green and coral red, which introduce unexpected chromatic accents alongside the neutral palette and distinctly natural materiality of the furnishings. Explicitly luxurious pieces are set alongside the quiet poetry of small period objects, creating juxtapositions of rare character.
This perfect balance between sensitive conservation and the ability to envision new forms of beauty is also expressed in the elegant bathrooms. United by the richness of their marble and travertine surfaces, they are defined by the timeless beauty of the Dandy taps, whose sophisticated nineteenth-century inspiration finds its ideal setting in this authentic jewel of classic-contemporary living.
