Located in one of the most stunning areas of the Siena region, on one of Italy’s largest private estates, Castello di Casole takes visitors deep into the heart of the Tuscan countryside and Tuscan history. The journey through time begins on two cypress-lined avenues that lead gently uphill to the main castle, which dates back to the 10th century. The castle is surrounded by 1,700 hectares of private land, where olives and grapes are grown to produce world-famous oils and wines. 38 rooms, suites and apartments look out onto fabulous rose and lemon gardens and immediately welcome the guest in a long line of tradition that has seen visits over the years from hugely important royal figures and box-office stars. The interiors have been painstakingly restored, paying homage to the past but without sacrificing on 21st-century comfort. The restoration work was carried out by local craftsmen, who used traditional techniques to incorporate wooden beams, terracotta and ceramics salvaged from the estate. Exposed stone or simple plaster walls are combined with traditional furniture in natural wood and neutral hues, creating a unique, relaxing atmosphere. The same hotel design philosophy has been applied to the elegant bathrooms, which provide the perfect setting for some of Devon&Devon’s most iconic products, including Celine and Fusion freestanding bathtubs, Regent vanity units and Savoy and Tube lamps.
