Commissioned in 1564 by Saint Charles Borromeo and transformed by Federico Borromeo into a monumental Baroque masterpiece, the magnificent former archiepiscopal seminary in Corso Venezia is now the new five-star hospitality gem by Lungarno Collection, the hotel company of the Ferragamo family. The reconversion of the seminary – which also served as a library, printing house and a creative studio of the internationally renowned architect Mario Bellini – was entrusted to the architectural expertise of architect Michele De Lucchi and to the unmistakable stylistic flair of architect Michele Bönan’s interior design. Peaceful and secluded, overlooking the bright glazed loggia or the beautiful garden, the rooms and suites of the new address for luxury hospitality in Milan were designed with inspiration from 1950s milanese living rooms, evoked by the larch floors, the blond walnut furniture, the boiserie interspersed with rattan panels decorating the walls and the abundant use of red and green. Explicit reference is made to the most authentic Tuscan manufacturing tradition in the leather and bronzed brass handles of the doors and wardrobes, as well as the surfaces of the bathrooms, made of Carrara marble or Breccia Medicea, a marble that was particularly dear to the Medici family, who – in the 16th century – made extensive use of it in their Florentine residences. Florence is also the origin of the classic, minimalist elegance of the Celine White bathtub made of White Tec Plus, which is used in the most exclusive suites.
