Awarded three keys by the Michelin Guide, Corte della Maestà is a travellers' retreat tucked away in the alleyways of Civita di Bagnoregio, one of the most charming medieval villages in the world. In the village, deserted by its inhabitants in 1685 following an earthquake, the well-known psychiatrist Paolo Crepet and his wife Cristiana bought the old bishop's palace and turned it into a tiny jewel of hospitality. The four suites, overlooking the splendid garden full of flowers, fruit trees and climbing plants, share an atmosphere of times gone by with the rest of the building: the stone walls (from which traces of frescoes emerge) and the original terracotta floors coexist harmoniously with wooden sculptures, 19th-century paintings, floral wallpapers, crystal chandeliers, collections of vintage mirrors and antique furniture, in a layering of styles and inspirations that surprises the guest at every step. In the La Badessa suite, next to the large wrought-iron four-poster bed and the small study surrounded by antique books, the Draycott freestanding bathtub finds its perfect place. With its unmistakable Victorian design, it evokes the charm of the past and invites travellers to rest their minds and bodies enveloped in the water, kept warm by its cast-iron body.
