Nestled behind the ocean and overlooking the Mimbeau lagoon, the opulent family villa La Rose des Sables is enveloped in a serene atmosphere, worlds apart from the bustling nearby seaside resorts. Time here appears to have paused in the early 20th century, embracing a different idea of holidaying. Built in the 1930s and protected by Bâtiments de France as an emblematic example of neo-Basque architecture, this charming residence with its sandy-coloured façades blends wonderfully with the garden and surrounding landscape framed by the blue of the sea, the gold of the dunes and the green of the Atlantic vegetation. Fully restored with respect for its architectural heritage, the 270 sqm interior is bathed in natural light and provides a unique view of the surroundings. The interior design, overseen by the house’s owner, exudes an unmistakable old-world charm, enriched by her personal touches. The furnishings and decorations reflect the owner’s eclectic taste. She has chosen rare and unique pieces from art galleries, haberdashers and antique shops. The result is a “habillée couture” residence with a unique atmosphere. Among the most charming spaces are a living room where a traditional fireplace harmonises perfectly with designer furniture and coveted items, such as a Picasso ceramic plate, a kitchen with ceramic tiles reproducing the decorations of the Palais des Papes in Avignon, a silent reading room and a tea room with a vintage ambiance. The villa has six bedrooms, two of which are dedicated to children and feature a delightful blend of stylistic influences, balancing Napoleon III-era benches, four-poster beds, and Knoll steel chairs. The large master suite bathroom is decorated with a fabric wall covering that creates a theatrical backdrop for the sculptural silhouette of the large Hollywood bathtub, the retro elegance of the Memphis console with double washbasin (with Austin taps), and charming Nadine wall sconces, with pleated lampshade and grosgrain profiles. Devon&Devon lights adorn the colourful guest room, illuminated by Noir lamps.
